A field of dreams? Of flowers? Of JOY!
Hello, I’m Michelle! I want to share with you a little bit about us and why this whole thing started. This flower adventure was one I joked about when we bought our old farmhouse. When I first set foot on our property, I remember feeling so refreshed. The peace that we felt as we walked around the house was how we knew that no matter how difficult it was going to be to fix up, it was going to be worth it. I used to love staring out of the window at the top of our stairs and dream about how beautiful it would be if our field was filled with flowers. With my husband starting his own company, the complete renovation of our home, and me being pregnant with twins, I never actually thought this dream would become a reality.
Slowly our house started to come together, the twins were born, and I desperately needed something that allowed me to get my hands dirty again. I’m not saying our three kids and the house weren’t enough to keep me busy because they definitely were. I’ve just always been someone that loved to work. So, in 2020 while playing outside with the kids I decided to start digging. That digging turned into a garden full of beautiful flowers and then I was hooked.
I knew this had to be for me! It was hard work that took me through the beautiful cycle of life. It was something that forced me to learn daily, it allowed me to be creative again, it was something I could do with my kids, all while teaching them what hard work was. I had no idea where flowers would take me, but I knew it was something that we needed in our lives.
That year, I had so many flowers and no plan to do anything with them, except to be surrounded by them. One day, my oldest made a makeshift table out of saw horses and a piece of plywood. That smart little girl and friends from next door started selling flowers in mason jars on the side of the road. People loved them and we loved the joy we brought to others so much that the following year we expanded the garden, grew even more flowers, and sold every bouquet that we made. We also planted a small patch of wildflowers in our field. People would stop to look at that field and ask questions, which got me really thinking.
That’s when it hit me! What a joy it would be to have people come and be surrounded by flowers. After all, it brought so much happiness to us and our neighbors. So, with the support of our community Joyful Acres was born.
It sure is crazy where life takes you. My husband and I were both in the Marine Corps and now we are flower farmers. All because of a dream…and some hard work.
We hope that you will come out and meet us, immerse yourself in the beauty, feel refreshed, feel at peace, have a few laughs, and make a whole lot of memories.
